Far cry 2 end full#
Experience it for yourself tomorrow after Far Cry 4's launch.įollow me on Twitter, like my page on Facebook, and pick up a copy of my sci-fi novel, The Last Exodus, and its sequel, The Exiled Earthborn, along with my new Forbes book, Fanboy Wars. It has also been theorised that the box given to Jack Carver at the end of Far Cry Instincts is full of conflict diamonds, which are a major part of Far Cry 2's story. It's nice to see video game stories can still surprise us, and this is the kind of thing that wouldn't be possible in non-interactive media. And I think the whole point is presenting a path to avoiding violence and ending the game immediately without spilling any blood, a joke and a food-for-thought lesson that can really only work if the game is cut dramatically short. I think this choice is too hidden to create an entirely separate plotline like that, and there's no way given the scope of the current game that essentially doubling the story would have been physically possible for Ubisoft. I've read that some wished this "choice" led to an alternate game universe that allowed you to side with Min and his cause for the duration of the game. Granted, this is just an Easter Egg and the main plot has plenty of death and destruction and will force you to despise Min soon enough, but I think it was good to set the game up this way. Having gotten all the way through till the end where you buddies turn on you, I found it unfortunate that you would be forced to fight those you were friends with. Here, Far Cry 4 is playing with the tropes of its own genre by offering an entirely different pathway toward "victory" that requires no killing at all. For those who don't want the ending to be spoiled, turn around now. As you get more power, you seem to lose more of your sanity, and by the end you're wondering if Jason Brody really did any of the things you've seen, or if it's been some sort of fantastical fever dream. Far Cry 3 examined the very video-gamey concept of a white frat bro coming to an island and becoming a badass, immortal, freedom fighter. With its last two installments specifically, Far Cry seems to be going a bit meta with its storytelling, and it's rather brilliant. I can't even think of another game to compare it to, that's how few games even hint at a possible way forward without a copious amount of bloodshed required. Do you want to KILL or SPARE this person? Do you want to join the RED or BLUE faction? And so on.īut here? By simply taking a character at their word, you get to act out a peaceful resolution in what's an otherwise excessively violent game.
Far cry 2 end series#
The Jackal is arguably the least evil villain in the Far Cry series, due to what his true motivation turns out to be.We're all used to games either A) forcing us on the rails for the duration or B) setting up a story in a very obvious series of player choices that affect the future outcome. The only way this is possible is if Jack somehow time traveled to 2008, but as far as the community knows, time travel is impossible within the Far Cry universe.
The Jackal was theorized to be Jack Carver from the first Far Cry game, however this should be impossible since the original Far Cry takes place in 2025 while Far Cry 2 takes place sometime in 2008.
